The skin thickness of different genders and different races is not the same. As the skin thickness is related to the fat glands, people with thick skin have fatty skin as well.
The other specification to understand a thick skin nose is that the shape of nose cartilage is not properly visible from outside.
One of the questions is that: Is our nose thick-skin or not (bony)?
In most cases we can see that the nose has got the specification of both types and it is not clearly categorized as one type. The best way to check the thickness of the nose is to check the thickness of the central skin of the nose (Columella). As the skin thickness may differ, all of the nose types can’t be set as one category and they have the below categories.
A) Weak Thick-Skin Nose. B) Medium Thick-Skin Nose. C)Hard Thick-Skin Nose. D) Very Hard Thick-Skin Nose.
Surly the results of the surgery on a thick skin nose can’t be compared to other kinds of noses but an experienced surgeon can get very much better results in these cases.
It’s mostly asked whether the tip of thick-skin noses will fall or not after a while. The answer is that if the surgery is done correctly and the bone is positioned and maintained carefully, the tip will not fall of course.
If the results of the surgery on bony and thick-skin noses are the same, what would be the difference?
1. Most of the thick-skin noses can’t be shaped like very thin noses or doll ones.
2. The results of thick-skin noses can’t have the complete perfections of bony noses results.
3. A very small size is not achievable and not advised.
4. A very big curve is not achievable .
5. The cutting area will be a little visible since the cutting line is not welded well enough in the thick-skin noses.
What shall the patients with thick skins do as precautions?
Before the surgery it is better to avoid sweet and spicy foods and keep the same diet as long as they are taping their nose.
If they have skin issues like Acne or Rash they shall consult with a dermatologist as these things can affect the result of the surgery.
In some cases I would prescribe a medication for some patients to decrease the fat in the skin in the surgery and recovery period.
I usually suggest people with thick-skin noses to tape their nose for a longer period.
